On March 22, 2018, CD Projekt – developer of the title – announces that its video game series has reached 33 million units sold. Since the release of the first episode on PC in 2007, The Witcher has become a truly international phenomenon. A brand that is now no longer just part of the videogame world, but also of the television world: Netflix has in fact produced the TV series of the same name, with Henry Cavill in the role of Geralt Di Rivia. This is the story of the singular triumph of CD Projekt and The Witcher, of how a small Polish developer managed to emerge and sell an entire universe of Eastern European culture to audiences around the world. To do this, we will rely not only on already published articles, documents or interviews – sometimes only in Polish – but also on very interesting unpublished testimonies.
